Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese in Northern Nigeria, Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah says President Buhari has failed to protect Nigerian Christian lives.
Bishop Kukah who was preaching at the World Mission Sunday at the Our Lady Queen of Nigeria Pro-Cathedral in Abuja, Nigeria says, General Buhari promised to protect Christian lives during his campaign when he met with the Catholic Bishops of Nigeria.
Bishop Kukah says, on Febraury 11, 2015 General Buhari who was contesting to be President then, accompanied by his Vice President and some stalwarts his party, the All People’s Congress or APC who were Catholic. They came for a meeting with the Catholic Bishops, and on that day, President Buhari said, and I quote him in his own words: the role of Government is to protect lives and properties of citizens, and to respect and protect their constitutional rights, one critical freedom that every Government must try to protect, is the liberty of citizens to exercise their respective faith; Christians and Muslims or others in a lawful manner without fear or hindrance and to prosecute those who use religion as an excuse to destroy homes, to destroy schools, to destroy places of worship. When a Government fails in that duty, they must then assist in the rebuilding of structures including destroyed places of worship and giving full restitution to those property.
Bishop Kukah says the Church in Nigeria has done so well in Missionary work and has taken this to Europe and America.
