Lt. Gen. Samuel Victor Leo Malu has been buried Saturday October 28, 2017 at the Tse Adoor Village in Benue State, Nigeria.
Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom had promised to immortalize General Malu after due consultation with the State House of Assembly.
Governor Ortom described Malu as a ‘Professional Soldier and a great man, who had done much to impact the lives of the Tiv people and the state in general’. “The late Malu had contributed much into the lives of the Tivs and Nigerians. We are proud of him, we appreciate him.”
Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai in a citation described Gen. Malu as ‘an articulate, dedicated, forthright gentleman, professional officer, who was firm, but calm’.
Buratai said his death was a great loss to his family, army, the nation and West Africa sub-region.
The Nigeria Army Headquarters Garrison had conducted Medical Outreach at Tse Adoor, the birth place of Lt. Gen. Samuel Victor Leo Malu, Nigeria’s former Chief Of Army Staff between 1999 and 2001 before he retired.
General Malu’s Military Career
Lt. Gen. Samuel Victor Leo Malu was enlisted into the Defence Academy as a member of Regular Course 3 in 1967 and commissioned in 1970 as 2nd Lieutenant.
He had held many appointments in the Nigerian Army including;
General Officer Commanding (GOC) 82 Division, Enugu
Contingent Commander and Chief of Operations of Nigerians Contingent to Liberia, in 1992
Force Commander, ECOMOG, Liberia, 1996.
His course mates are;
-Former Senate President Brig. Gen. David Mark
-Brig Gen Tunde Ogbeha
-Maj Gen Chris Abutu Garba
-Maj Gen Alwali Kazir
-Late Maj Gen Abdulkareem Adisa and
-Late Vice Admiral Okhai Mike Ahigbe
He was commissioned as a Second lieutenant on 14 March 1970…
Lt. Gen. Samuel Victor Leo Malu is blessed with 4 children and 2 grand children and his wife, Esther.
He finally went home to rest with his maker on 9th Oct 2017 after a fulfilled life and brilliant military career at the age of 70.
