As Rev. Fr. Prof. Francis Shagbaor Wegh marks 40 years of Priesthood, ASKiNG RADiO’s Reporter David Terkura is at the heart of this great event.
It is indeed a moment of great joy here at St. Michael’s Catholic Mission, Nyorgyungu, Makurdi.
From what I see on the faces of worshippers and visitors here, especially those I have spoken to, it is obvious that everyone feels blessed celebrating this great Priest who has done 40 fruitful years in the Lord’s vineyard today.
Born on June 20, 1954 to Pa Wegh Bar and Mama Veronica of Ukan, Ushongo Local Government, Benue State, Fr. Wegh started with a class of 39 Minor Seminarians, only Fr. Wegh with one other classmate made it to the Catholic Priesthood. However, his mate has gone to live with the Lord.
Fr. Francis Wegh was ordained Priest of the Catholic Diocese of Makurdi on December 10, 1977 by His Lordship, Most Rev. Michael Okoro, Bishop of Abakaliki Diocese.
The ordination took place at Lessel, Fr. Wegh’s home town.
Rev. Fr. Prof. Francis Shagbaor Wegh’s profile compiled by Nathaniel Ushahemba Nongu on November 26, 2017 shows that Fr. Wegh is the first Nigerian to have graduated with a Ph.D in Social and Cultural Anthropology being a unique discipline in the academia.
